Blog Post 6

I find myself using the cultural performance skills that I have learned at SAAS at my internship in a few different situations. One of them is again, when I make phone calls. I know that it seems that in every single post I talk about making phone calls to winners of sweepstakes, but that is a very large part of what I do at KJR and it pertains to a lot of these prompts. Anyway, the cultural performance skills that I acquired at SAAS come in very handy when talking to complete strangers on the phone. First, SAAS forces its students to do some sort of performing art, thus forcing students to possibly step out of there comfort zone. In the beginning of my internship, talking to complete strangers on the phone, about stuff that I myself was still trying to understand was a little outside of my comfort zone, but being used to having to be pushed out of my comfort zone by SAAS helped me stay confident and calm. Second, the amount of performance I did at SAAS just helped my with my verbal skills and charisma in general. This has helped a lot during phone calls, and has allowed me to be more confident when speaking and also more friendly and fluid sounding. In addition to making phone calls, the cultural performance skills I acquired at SAAS has helped with communicating with my co workers, especially my boss. When getting pushed out of my comfort zone at SAAS, it strengthened my ability to communicate with adults, for this can be a daunting task to kids and teens. This can be even more daunting when the interactions happen face to face. Though, having deeper connections with my teachers at SAAS has really helped me become more comfortable interacting with adults. At KJR, when I see a problem with my schedule or am not clear on instructions to a certain assignment I feel very confident to go up to my superiors and confront them about it or get clarification. Also, being more confident when interacting wit adults has socially helped me at KJR. It is easier to make friends with my co-workers, which ultimately makes the experience more enjoyable and fun for me. In all, there are not really a lot of times during my internship that I find that I really need to utilize the cultural performance skills SAAs has taught me. Though, in the situations that they do find use, it has helped me tremendously.
