When I first was accepted as an intern at KJR sports radio,
I was ecstatic, partly because I am an avid sports fan. Though I saw, and still
see, a lot of great opportunities in this internship that would benefit my life
in numerous different ways. The first aspect of doing an internship at KJR I am
excited about is that I will finally be doing work that pertains to my desired
field of study; Journalism and Communication. I believe that through interning
at KJR I will really be able to get my foot in door in those fields and give me
a inside view as to how Journalism and Communication skills can be used in the real
world. In addition, learning customer
service skills, like how to be friendly to clients who are not particularly
friendly to you or how to be as helpful to a client as possible, is an
important skill in the work force. Customer service is a key part of almost any
job. Through making numerous calls to winners of radio sweepstakes and
participating in promotional events I believe my internship at KJR will allow
me to hone my customer service skills. In terms of goals for my self during my
internship at KJR, I have a few that may seem a little vague and cliché, but
are still my goals. My first one has already really been said; successfully get
a foot in the door in the field of communication and journalism. This goal, I
believe will come more naturally and is almost part of the experience. My next
goal is to do work that actually matters or makes a difference at KJR. When I
say that I mean I don’t want to be running around an office all day fetching
people papers or filling out different kinds of paper work. I want to do as close
to the same kind of work as I can that other employees do, so that I feel more
like a member of KJR rather than just a small time intern. Being given this
work means that I may have to start by fetching papers or filling out paper work,
but do an over satisfactory job every time so I prove that I can handle higher
caliber work. My final goal is a little trivial, but important to me. During my
time at KJR I really want to make new friends and connections. This is
something that is actually very important to me for a few reasons. One is that
I want a work environment that is 100% comfortable for me and I believe that by
befriending KJR’s friendly staff I will enjoy my time there significantly more.
Also, my dad has always told me that having connections is very important in
the job world and told me to make as many connections as I can. This is very
true. Connections I make at KJR may mean a possible job in this field later, or
having a good reference to put on a resume for any other job I apply to I the
future. At this time I do not see any immediate obstacles in the way of the
goals I have set for myself other that the obstacle of my own willingness to
work. If I remove that obstacle by choosing to exhibit my hard work ethic and friendliness
I think I will be able to truly flourish at KJR.
